Ten objectives translate ILA's vision and mission into a programme of work.
Increase equitable access to quality, affordable, and timely legal aid services for vulnerable, marginalized, and underserved populations through legal representation, legal counselling, mediation, legal referrals, mobile legal clinics, and community outreach programmes.
Promote the protection, respect, and realization of human rights by monitoring violations, supporting victims, conducting advocacy campaigns, facilitating strategic litigation, and strengthening mechanisms for accountability and redress.
Support the development of an effective, independent, transparent, and accountable justice system through legal reform initiatives, policy dialogue, institutional strengthening, capacity-building, and constructive engagement with justice sector institutions.
Advance democratic governance by encouraging transparency, constitutionalism, citizen participation, accountability, anti-corruption measures, and responsive public institutions that uphold the rule of law and protect public interests.
Improve public understanding of constitutional rights, legal procedures, civic responsibilities, electoral processes, land rights, family law, labour rights, and access to public services through community education, public awareness campaigns, and legal literacy programmes.
Strengthen peaceful coexistence by supporting mediation, reconciliation, dialogue, conflict prevention, transitional justice, and community-based dispute resolution mechanisms that foster social cohesion and national unity.
Promote gender equality and social inclusion by protecting the rights of women, children, youth, persons with disabilities, internally displaced persons, refugees, returnees, detainees, and other vulnerable populations through legal assistance, advocacy, and targeted empowerment programmes.
Enhance the technical, organizational, and leadership capacity of civil society organizations, community-based organizations, traditional leaders, justice institutions, and local governance structures to improve service delivery and institutional effectiveness.
Conduct high-quality legal, governance, and socio-economic research to identify emerging challenges, generate evidence, influence public policy, support legislative reforms, and improve programme effectiveness through informed decision-making.
Develop and strengthen strategic partnerships with government institutions, the judiciary, the legal profession, civil society organizations, development partners, academic institutions, the private sector, and international organizations.
